چکیده مقاله:

Background and Objective: Dermatophytosis is a superficial fungal disease. Prosopis farcta has attracted attention for ethnobotany and medical purposes. The present study aimed to investigate the antifungal properties of Prosopis farcta extracts against Trichophyton mentagrophytes (PTCC 5054) and five archived terbinafine resistant clinical isolates of T. mentagrophyte, based on an ethnobotanical report in Yazd province (Iran). Materials and Methods: In vitro drug susceptibility for methanol extract and amphotericin B was carried out according to the CLSI-M38-A2. A topical solution (1%) was formulated by root extract of P. farcta. The nine male Sprague rats were infected by T. mentagrophytes and assessed for in vivo anti-dermatophytic activity. Results: The MIC value of Amphotericin B was ≤ 0.5 μg/mL against all strains. The methanol extract showed the lowest MIC and MFC values on fungal activity (both with 0.00625 mg/mL). The complete cure of 21-day period with terbinafine is reduced to 10 days with methanol 80% root extract of P. farcta solution. Conclusion: Compared with Amphotericin B, P. farcta could be considered a potential antifungal agent in terbinafine-resistant clinical isolates of dermatophytes.

In vitro antifungal activities of Actinomyces species isolated from soil samples against Trichophyton mentagrophytes

Background and Purpose: Cutaneous infections arise from a homogeneous group of keratinophilic fungi, known as dermatophytes. Since these pathogenic dermatophytes are eukaryotes in nature, use of chemical antifungal agents for treatment may affect the host tissue cells. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of Actinomyces species against Trichophyton mentagrophytes (abbrevi...

Trichophyton mentagrophytes a keratinophilic fungus

Trichophyton mentagrophytes is a keratinophylic fungus belonging to a homogeneous group of fungi called the dermatophytes. The dermatophytes cause a variety of cutaneous infections in humans and animals. T. mentagrophytes has at least five different variants which make up the Trichophyton mentagrophytes complex. Two perfect states Arthroderma benhamiae and Arthroderma vanbreuseghemii have been ...

In vitro Antifungal Activity of Limonene against Trichophyton rubrum

In this study, the antifungal activities of limonene against Trichophyton rubrum were evaluated via broth microdilution and vapor contact assays. In both assays, limonene was shown to exert a potent antifungal effect against T. rubrum. The volatile vapor of limonene at concentrations above 1 µl/800 ml air space strongly inhibited the growth of T. rubrum. The MIC value was 0.5% v/v in the broth ...

Rosacea-like tinea incognito due to Trichophyton mentagrophytes vr. mentagrophytes.

Tinea incognito is a dermatophytosis with atypi-cal clinical manifestation in the absence of the typical " ringworm " (1). The term tinea incognito was originally used in 1968 by Ive and Marks in 14 patients with atypical dermatophytic infection caused by a previous steroid treatment (2). Since then, several cases of tinea incognito have been described after topical application of pimecrolimus ...
